Today is the last day of collection of inter school newspaper collection for upper secondary. Its about 3.30pm. Two men from clorex corporation company just came in to collect the newspapers they weighted the total amount of newspapers which was a total of 184kg. Drum rolls please... The winner is Secondary 4E1.They collected 66kg of newspapers. Its quite a big amount. Mrs goh our teacher who organised this event together with us is very happy with the results so are we . :)

Today is the first day of inter school newspaper collection for the upper secondary students.Students from all classes have been putting their newspaper which they have carried all the way from their home.In the morning not much newspaper were stacked up. It wasn't untill after school finished, at about 2.30 I was surprised to see so much of effort by some students who seemed to have gone back home and came back to the school bringing in newspapers and stack up them neatly and tied them up in bundles & writting their class on them. There are alot of newspaper stacked up by now. Let's see how tomorrow's collection goes.

CrEdItS tO tHe SeCoNdArY tHrEe StUdEnTs...

The secondary three students need to collect newspaper from the community.Last friday, they had given out the flyers to inform the community about the collection of newspaper today.

All the secondary three students assemble at the foyer after their PFT test. They were divided into groups by their index numbers and Mrs Goh sent them off by their groups. Few groups would go to a block to collect the newspaper and the collected newspaper would be carried to the ground floor. Chairmans were at the ground floor to wait for their classmates collecting newspapers.

It was a tiring day but the secondary three students were very energetic. You could see them carrying newspapers to the ground floor and going up to the flats to collect more newspapers. Some did not even use the lift. They used the stairs.We really appreciate them for their hardwork...Thanks to the secondary three students we actually collected 1520kg of newspapers and 5 kg of old clothings. We raised $214.30 for the needy students...

FrEe AdMiSsIon To ScIeNcE cEnTre...

Today, we had go to science centre for our project meeting. Our project,youth for earth is brought to us by Worldview 360. It was a briefing about the competition.They gave us a detailed briefing about the dos and donts of this project. We had to arrive there at 9.30am. I and hazwani were just in time but Jaya was 15 minutes late...However the briefing would start at 10am.The reporting time was 9.30am.

Wei Qi could not come because she was going for a vaccination.During the briefing session we met our facillitators Ms Joyce and Ms Fanndly.They were very supporting as they liked our proposal and gave suggestions to improve our ideas. Ms Joyce told us to use the recycled newspaper to do paper mache. They also gave us 2 A2 boards to showcase our project ideas to the public.After the briefing, we were allowed to look around the science centre.Here comes the fun part...we did not have to pay for the admission fee. The dinosaurs looked very real.We had a nice time there...

ThE wInNeR iS...

Last day of newspaper collection for the lower secondary students.Time:7.03am.There is still a lot of newspapers coming in. This collection of newspapers and competition will end at 2.45pm. Now the time is 2.50pm, the collection of newspapers is officially over. The company came in to collect the old newspapers which will be then recycled. The collection of newspapers for the lower secondary is (drum rolls please) 155kg.The winner is Secondary 1E1. They collected 41kg.Thanks to the lower secondary students. The money for the newspapers will be given to the needy students.

The reults...

The distribution of flyers by the secondary three students...selected students from each class had to be in the foyer at 12.30pm. Mrs goh(our teacher-in-charge) briefed the secondary three students about the distribution of flyers. Students have to put on their best behaviour because these students are going outside the school to give out the flyers to the residents in blocks 290A-G and 291A-E.

Instructions given were:
1)Flyers to be given not by slotting them in the letterbox but in person.
2)Knock or press the door bell for around 5 seconds.
3)If answered,say" Good afternoon sir or madaam,...." and tell them about the newspaper collection.
4)If there is no response, slot in the flyer under the door.

However there are some rules that must be followed:
Rule no1. Be polite to the residents.
Rule no2. Do not scream or run.
Rule no3.Use the over head bridge .Do NOT jaywalk.

We were quite scared that there will be complains about the students. We went around the neighbourhood taking pictures and also help to give out the flyers.We had a very nice time. "Good afternoon sir,...."

Awesomely , this appreciation goes for our lower sec students. Guess why? Because of their good deed for the environment.
Today, 15 may ,it was the collection of newspapers, from the lower sec students . The time was 6:30 am , when we were waiting madly for newspapers at school . But none of them put any newspaper, not even one. .Usually most of the students in yusof ishak will come at 7 am, so we waited patiently . Suddenly , a noise came from my back , oh my god , it was our lower sec students. It was a big bunch of them. They were really trying hard to make the collection of newspapers, a success. We can see many students bringing newspapers in plastic bags with the class written inorder to prevent stealing. And some others , just took out newspapers from their school bag. They were really great , carrying so much weight with them.The place was really crowded. I hardly took photos, likewise leetha ,wei qi and jaya . But we managed to grab some good photos . Really our yusoffians were wonderful. They are generous to the society. This collection continued the following day , 16 may 08.

ScaRy DaY...

Today, we need to inform the secondary three students about the distribution of flyers to the neighbouring blocks. However, we were too scared to stand in front of the whole school to make the announcement. Therefore, we asked our teacher-in-charge to make the annouce. It was so scary to stand in front of the whole school!

After the announcement was made to the secondary three students about the distributing of flyers on friday, our teacher-in-charge, Mrs Goh, called out the chairperson to get ten students from each class to participate in the CIP programme which is the distribution of flyers. However students had to volunteer to distribute the flyers.

Today, is the last day of mid year exams for the lower secondary students... finally, everyone can relax and enjoy our holiday!

During the assembly, the lower secondary students were informed about the collection of newspaper on 15th may to 16th may.They had to bring their newspapers from their home. However, we had a few problems as the students were too exicited as it was the last day of exam.Then I and Hazwani were writing the classes on some papers. Jaya and Leetha did the outlinig of the newspapers.What a tiring day...

Today was the designing of the newsletter.This newsletter will be distributed out by the secondary three students on 16th May.This newsletter is designed to inform the residents about the collection of newspapers on the 21st may. We had a lot of fun designing the newsletter. We were checking the newsletter a lot of times to check if there were any errors. We printed a coloured flyer and asked our principle, Mr Chew politely, to sign on the flyer. We printed 1400 flyers. We actually needed 1351 flyers. We printed extra flyers in case we need more. The unused papers will be recycled.

pRoBlEm SoLvEd...

At last we managed to figure out the dates to carry out our ideas after one long hour of planning & thinking.

l There are two types of collection that involves:
1.the school
2.the community (neighbouring blocks)

A competition for the lower secondary to be held for two days on the 15th and 16th May 2008.The lower secondary students had to bring old newspapers and magazines.
As for the upper secondary competition, it will be on the 21st and 22nd May 2008. On the 16th may, selected students will be going out to distribute flyers to the residents,to inform them about the collection of old newspapers and magazines.
Therefore,it will be easier for the residence as well as us ,as we can just go and collect the newspaper quickly.

hi...we did some brainstorming today.we got some ideas for the worldview360. we had alot of ideas. Finally,we decided on a topic waste mangement.

1.organise recycling of newspaper for the school(one for the lower secondary students+teachers;upper secondary school students+teachers).

2.organise recycling of old newspapers and magazines for the community.

Big problem...the selection of dates!!!
